Exodus 23:13 (KJV) And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Deuteronomy 4:28-29 (KJV) And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
Christian friend, here is another great lesson for us to learn. I’d like to share some application with you from this O.T Text although it was written in context unto the nation of Israel, not the N.T Church. The Bible says we can gain instruction from ALL scripture (2 Tim 3:16 KJV). If God commanded His physical chosen people NOT to desire the gods of the heathen (gentiles) around them, how much the more should we as His spiritual people avoid the gods of the un-believers around us? In our country of the USA, we’ve been influenced by the gods of Hollywood, comic books, religions and culture; especially my kinsmen the Mexican people with their ancient practices of worshipping gods (Aztec, Mayan, Yaqui). But, when I became a Christian, I began to learn form the God of the Bible, that He is a Jealous God (Ex 20:5; Ex 34:14; De 4:24), how can I intermingle with the gods of this land with the God of heaven in my heart? 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV) What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? As Christians, God told us that His Spirit dwells in our bodies; how can we therefore seek to entertain the false gods through movies, plays, tv shows, cultural celebrations, to offend the living God? Please, consider what I write in love. It took me years to mature in my faith, whereby I repented from desiring to watch those comic book movies, and anything else where the “gods” of my country try to enter into my heart through my eyes and ears. As a result, I have been reading and studying my bible more which has tremendously been blessing me to love my God even more, prior to surrender those desires.
